Questions

I encourage you to get in touch if you don't see an answer to a commonly asked question below.

How do I know if you're the right therapist for me?

Finding a therapist that feels like the "right fit" can be challenging. The best way to know is to schedule time for a complimentary initial consultation. We'll spend 15-20 minutes getting to know each other, discussing your goals for treatment, talking about scheduling and fees, and reviewing questions you might have for me. If we both feel like it's worth continuing to explore fit, we can schedule an initial session. I typically consider the first 1-3 sessions to be a "mutual assessment period," where we'll be checking in more frequently on how things are feeling.   If at any point either of us feels you'd be better helped by someone else, I'll offer referrals to other therapists or services. Many people decide to schedule consultations with several (typically 2-3) therapists so they can gain a better understanding of their options. I encourage you to trust your instincts on who you feel comfortable talking to and sense is competent in what you want to work on. I care very much about client-therapist fit, and it's okay if you feel drawn to working with someone else.

What about fees and insurance?

My full fees are listed below, based on the type and length of service. I reserve at least four "sliding scale" slots in my caseload, but don't have availability at the moment. I accept check or credit cards as payment. Individuals (Adults & Teens), 50 minutes: $260 Couples & Relationships, 60 minutes: $300 Couples & Relationships, 80 minutes: $340 I do not accept insurance as payment, but I can provide you with a superbill if your insurance provider offers "out-of-network benefits." Although I cannot guarantee that you are eligible for out-of-network coverage, many PPO plans do offer reimbursement. Here is a list of questions you can ask your insurance provider to see if you're eligible to receive partial reimbursement for services: 1. What is my insurance amount covered per each individual (CPT:90834) session or couples (CPT:90837) session with an out-of-network behavioral health provider with an LMFT license? (This will be a flat fee or a percentage of the total cost) 2. Do I have to meet a deductible first? 3. If yes: How much is the deductible for out-of-network benefits? How much of my deductible has already been met? 4. Is there a limit on the number of sessions that will be covered? 5. Does my plan cover behavioral health visits offered via telehealth? 6. What is the process for submitting a reimbursement claim? Is there a deadline for submitting claims?

No Surprises Act

Notice to clients and prospective clients: Under the law, health care providers need to give clients who aren't using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, or any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service, or at any time during treatment. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 or more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, or how to dispute a bill, see your Estimate or visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

How long will we work together?

There are many factors that contribute to recommended duration for therapy, including your goals, resources, symptoms and expectations. We'll check in frequently on your progress and discuss session frequency as we go. Ultimately, the choice for how long to stay in therapy is yours. Typically, I work with clients for approximately 1-3 years, but each case is different.

How do I prepare for therapy?

All you really need is a private, comfortable space, a strong internet connection, and a willingness to explore. I recommend spending 10-15 minutes before and after sessions transitioning. You might make notes about things you'd like to discuss or insights you gained. You could also take a moment to see if you need water or a snack, or practice mindfulness.

What should I know about privacy and confidentiality?

I take client privacy and security seriously. You can access my Privacy Policy above. Although there is inherent risk regarding privacy with the use of any technology service, I assess security in accordance with industry standards and pay for professional use of technologies that allow for a signed BAA (Business Associate Agreement) to protect PHI in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
